GENE CICCONE, AIBD CMAA

Gene Ciccone is a professional member of the AIBD (American Institute of Building Design) and the CMAA (Construction Managers Association of American).

Gene’s exposure to building design and construction began early. Summer jobs in the construction trades throughout his student career both in high school and at Manhattan College left him with a deep love of architecture and design. Watching building after building take shape before his eyes drew Gene to the power of defining space with volume, form and line. Here, being involved directly in the hands on process left him with an appreciation for the importance of good construction practice.

The opportunity to work with a varied cast of European trained craftsman for more than 8 years as a student and young adult in the fields of carpentry, masonry and roofing and metalwork left him with a very practical and thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials and practice from the ground up. By 1978 he had established his own small design/build company. In 1983 he became the project manager for a 35 lot subdivision of luxury homes in a prestigious area of Westchester County, NY. In this project Gene expanded his experience to include not only fine home building but site development, road construction and drainage infrastructure.

From 1989-92 Gene was the project manager on a complicated and highly detailed 8,000 s.f. private residence in Pocantico Hills, New York. This segued into an ongoing series of highly detailed and complicated projects which Gene managed. Collaboration on this project with the design team in the form of construction detail drawings and suggestions led Gene further into a career that centers on project design, detailing and construction management. Before long, Gene’s input was sought out by architects, designers and builders alike to resolve site conditions from structural details and interior finish to site development.

Knowledge of the engineering and architectural pillars that make a project feasible borne not only from education but from intimate, first hand experience in the field have given Gene a unique niche.

Whether working directly for owners helping them to articulate their ideas and produce working drawings to bring them from dream to reality or as a liaison between design teams, owners and builders to resolve site conditions, detail drawings or specify methods and materials. Gene, as president of Dana Associates Inc., continues to bring over 30 years of practical experience to the drawing table. He is committed to continue to evolve with an ever changing industry focusing on the newest technologies, especially in the area of sustainable design, without sacrificing attention to the details and design qualities that make a home or work place an inspiring and nurturing environment.
